Dear Duckmen,
We have a new obsession at our house. It's gone far beyond just weekly sitting down to watch a show together. We have become full-blown Duck Dynasty addicts. I mean to the point of a "sipping sweet tea out of a shiny, new Uncle Si tupperware glass" addiction. We are proud to say we've been wearing "Happy Happy Happy" shirts since early May and have even moved on to family viewing nights of your Benelli's Duck Commander DVDs.
When it comes down to it, we love you. We love your family values, we love your outdoor-ism, yes, we even love your beards. You've made being a redneck something to aspire to and let me tell you, I have never thought of it that way before. I can't deny my country accent, but don't call me a redneck! Well, you guys and your duck loving ways are making me warm up to the concept.
Ok, so what's the point, you know we (and about 3 million other people) love your new show. Why should I take a break from my PB & J "sammich" to write about it? Well, I just wanted to throw you guys and gals (love the wives and mamas too) a word of caution.
Regretfully, I caught a special about "Jon and Kate plus 8" lately and who the once beloved Jon had become. Granted it all could have been lies, but my first thought was "I hope I never see one of the Robertson's on something like this."
You've created a wonderful show, you have a successful business and you've put it all out there. You've invited us (the viewers) in and we love it! We can't get enough. We will clamor for your attention. We can't wait to see you on MSNBC. We want you to invite us over for Christmas Dinner (that would be awesome!).
So anyway...go easy, boys. My caution to you is to remember who you are. Remember your families. Remember your home church. Remember to go hunting (ok, I'm sure you don't need to be reminded of that). Remember who's first.
Shut us out if you want to, if it all becomes too much. We'll be glad for you, believe me. I'm praying for all of you. And thanks for saying Jesus is the light of the world on cable tv... because He is.
